Canton McKinley is coming off a disappointing 3-7 season, including a week one forfeit due to an ineligible player in the game. As I recall, they lost to Pershing (Michigan) 66-6, but due to the forfeit only “lost” 1-0. They have their work cut out for them in 2008, including a game in the Herbstreit Challenge, of which the Bulldogs are the host team.
Here’s the Bulldogs’ 2008 schedule…
8/23 SOLON
8/30 CATHEDRAL (IN) Herbstreit Challenge
9/5 LAKE
9/12 @ Austintown Fitch
9/19 JACKSON
9/26 @ Glenoak
10/4 PERRY
10/10 HOOVER
10/17 @ Boardman
10/25 @ Massillon
McKinley beat that team 66-6 and had to forfeit because of a kid who played in the last 30 seconds. Had the game been competitive the kid would have never stepped on the field. The coach found the mistake later and the school turned itself in. It could have easily ignored it and never gotten caught. Pretty classy move that ended up (although not directly) resulting in the coach leaving at the end of the season.
I thought that to be the case. It set the tempo for the rest of the season, though. Hopefully they can do better in ‘08 (except against Hoover).
