Detroit: A city in political turmoil
April 16, 2008
The city of Detroit has seen its better days. The Tigers are having a tough go at it so far, with one of baseball’s highest payrolls to boot. Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick is facing perjury charges after saying under oath that he was not having a fling with an aide.
Now comes news of a dispute within the investigative committee of Detroit City Council last week. Monica Conyers, wife of U.S. Congressman John Conyers, spoke out of turn twice during the questioning of an investigative attorney, once over another councilwoman, the next time over council president Ken Cockrel. She continued in a tirade, even calling Cockrel “Shrek.”

Not a good time to be a Detroiter…unless you’re a Red Wings fan, of course.
