This is an email I wrote to WKRK’s Vice Presdient and General Manger Tom Herschel this morning on my feelings toward the cancellation and release of Shane “Rover” French and his radio morning show…
Hi Tom,
I began listening to 92.3 last May, when my wife was in the Cleveland Clinic recovering from her hip re-replacement. Living in Cuyahoga Falls, I would drive to the Clinic every morning to spend the day with her and aid in her recovery as I could. I began listening to Rover at that time and was hooked. No matter what the antics were, the show brought fresh humor to my morning – not the same old jokes used for 30 years (I won’t mention WNIR’s Stan Piatt by name
).
I was disappointed to turn my radio on last Tuesday to find Opie and Anthony (and not Rover) on WKRK.
I do not know what happened in negotiations – who walked away, who pointed to the door – that part doesn’t matter to me (I’m not interested in finger-pointing). However, what does matter to me is this – I don’t really care for alternative music (I’m more of a Kenny Chesney/Brooks and Dunn fan myself). Now that Rover is not on WKRK, I will not be listening to the station any longer. Other than Mr. Classic on Saturday and Sunday nights on WNCX, I really don’t have a whole lot of reason to listen to the CBS cluster stations any longer.
I didn’t write this note to flame you or any other member of management at CBS Radio, or to blame anyone from the CBS Radio camp, Rover’s camp, or anyone else, for that matter, for the loss of your team’s MVP. I just want you to know how I feel about the matter (if it really matters), and how disappointing my morning drives from Cuyahoga Falls to North Canton have been, listening to DeLuca on 92.5 in Canton (who couldn’t tie Rover’s shoelaces) because there is no better morning entertainment on the airwaves IMHO.
Thank you for reading this note, and good luck with WKRK…I have a feeling CBS Radio will need it.
