The NCAA Division III playoffs are down to its final four teams. The Stagg Bowl is next Saturday (the 15th) in Salem, Virginia. Here is a rundown of the semifinals games…
University of Mary Hardin-Baylor at University of Wisconsin-Whitewater – UMHB beat Wesley in Dover, Delaware, 27-10 last week, and they mainly got to this point on the road. Wisconsin-Whitewater have been homers to this point, and won 47-7 over Wabash. UMHB has been here before, as has Wisconsin-Whitewater. UWW played for the national title the last two years, losing to Mount Union both times. UMHB made it to the championship game in 2004, losing to Linfield. I think I’m going to stick with experience, although there may be a few seniors on the UMHB team that were freshmen in ‘04. I’ll take Wisconsin-Whitewater.
Bethel at Mount Union – Bethel University is located in St. Paul, Minnesota. The Royals find themselves in the semifinals, but trying to climb Mt. Everest, er, Mt. Union. Same difference. Mount has won the last two national titles, and 9 of the last 14 titles. The Raiders have maintained their 50-plus point average throughout the playoffs as they did in the regular year. They’re unstoppable…I’ll take Mount.
