Twenty years ago, six North Canton Hoover football players played a not-so-funny prank on a pizza delivery guy. They called to order a pizza, then jumped the delivery guy (who happened to play soccer for the Canton Invaders indoor pro team) and stole his pizzas. They were promptly caught, and their futures in college (and potenially beyond) were in jeopardy. For years to come, Hoover kids were taunted by those from other schools at sporting events with pizza boxes.
Now this past Sunday night, present Hoover coach Don Hertler Jr. was pulled over and charged with drunk driving. He apparently was heading south on Cleveland Ave., SW from W. Tuscarawas St. in downtown Canton. For those not from Canton, Cleveland Ave., SW at W. Tuscarawas is a one-way street…with traffic driving north.
Another black eye for North Canton Hoover football, in my opinion. And what a role model for the kids on the team. “If coach can drink and drive, why can’t I ?” would not be an unreasonable thought by one of the players. As a Hoover alum and football supporter, I am embarrassed and ashamed by the actions of our coach.
No one cared about the pizza boxes. Who gives two s@@@’s if people taunt u w/ a pizza box… haha. So he got a D.U.I, stuff happens…he should get his consequences and it not be a huge deal.
Coach Hertler is a respected coach who made a mistake, I know this man, he will make it right with the community of North Canton, and all his players and coaches. A proud supporter of Hoover Football and Coach Don Hertler Jr… From a former player at C.V. his first coaching job.
