The Cathedral Buffet is a buffet-style restaurant I reviewed previously on this blog. Deb and I went there for brunch today…also very good. You can make a waffle, have eggs and bacon, fried chicken, and other breakfast and/or lunch favorites. And yes, when you make a waffle, it’s a WHOLE one.
And the price…$6.80 per person. That’s cheaper than Big Boy…and better food too ! Drinks and salad bar are also included, just like at dinner. The Cathedral Buffet is open for lunch Tuesday-Friday 11-2:30, and brunch on Saturday 10-2:30.
What a deal…and good food too !
I was there one time during one of their special holiday dinners and tried their roasted carved pork. It was unbelievably good and had the best seasonings. Certainly the best pork I’ve tasted anywhere! Also, I like their lunch menu which varies each day. The sweet and sour chicken over rice is not what you’d expect at a buffet style restaurant. I saw an asian chef bringing it out and thought “no wonder it’s so good”. Now if I can just figure out what days they prepare that selection.
Now y’all know that it used to be volunteer labor until one of the kitchen staff was attracted to a much younger lady (14 years old?) and shot her in the restaurant. After that, they opted to pay the individuals– possibly to run a little more quality control on the individuals volunteering?
We’ve already hashed over the whole thing in our refusing to support his establishment, but a Big Boy restaurant? They still exist?
Give me Einstein’s. We love them! In fact, K- knows where every Panera and Einstein’s is located between Akron and Canton. Got the girl hooked on those “wonderful bagels, Mom!”
Uh, she was stabbed…but the food is still tasty.
And there is still a Big Boy on Graham Rd. They are also well established in the Toledo area and in Michigan.
Oops on the injury.
Big Boy just went out of business somewhat recently on Tallmadge Circle. Since I grew up in Tallmadge, I was quite surprised. Big Boy had been there for as long as I could remember, at least as a functioning restaurant always. I believe it was a different chain name previously. Grandpa-Poppy loved Big Boy for a good while. He was a fan of Wally Waffle. Those Wally folks knew him well. He was a regular and they knew what he wanted before he would even order.
The memories . . .
For Dave,
They have their Asian themed menu on Wensdays. You were correct in assuming it was because of the Asian chef, it’s his specialty. He’s Japanese.
Unfortunately, the buffet only serves dinner on Friday and Saturdays now, in addition to Sunday. Things have slowed down to the point where they can’t serve dinner on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at this time.
Speaking of…I’ll be off to dinner there shortly !!!
I love the food. They serve southern dishes every Sunday, and often, on other days in the week, the first hot foods you see are biscuits, rolls, mashed potatoes, cornbread dressing, collard greens and sweet potatoes.
The rest that follows also depends on the day.
They always have a selection of vegetables, often steamed.
They always serve battered and rotisserie style chicken.
They have the best salad bar I’ve ever seen, with a selection of cold desserts, and cold foods, like potato, tuna, pasta, or ham salads. I always get some soup when I go.
They change their desserts around often but have favorites that tend to always be there, like the hot fudge cake, ice cream, sweet potato souffle, and carrot cake.
They have Tazo and Lipton teas at the beverage area, the coffee is pretty nice too, not sure of the brand name.
During summer months, they serve some very good pork barbecue ribs, even baby back. The Buffet also has a brunch for church attendees on Friday nights after service, where they serve all kinds of breakfast foods, and have specialty nights for hot wings, tacos/Tex-Mex, Delicatessen, Grilled foods, and other specialties.
Sorry for building up your appetite, because it’s about to go away.
The murder that not committed by a volunteer worker. The victim was a volunteer. The victim was a volunteer who was stabbed in an employees only area by her ex boyfriend. This is not the reason why they have to pay all workers. People wishing to volunteer donate money back to the ministries, and can get it deducted from their taxes.
